The last week of every 8-week class session is a club competition day, where everyone gets the opportunity to see if they are ready to advance to the next class level. Obedience students follow a set grading "ring sequence", and have the opportunity to earn a ribbon for themselves and their dogs. Agility students do not have a formalized grading, but have the opportunity to run through the skills they have learned in an atmosphere which parallels that of agility trials.
Participation in the competition is not mandatory. In fact, the class levels are designed so that most people will spend more than one 8-week session in the upper-level classes, and thus may decide not to compete if they plan to remain in the same class. But the atmosphere is fun and relaxed and we strongly encourage everyone to have a go, if only to notice how much you have improved!
